2022 WMF Start Up & Scale Up Challenges: Prof. Victoire de Margerie announces the Awards

 

Following the nomination of 4 Scale Ups and 12 Start Ups on March 29th, the Awards were announced in Nancy on June 16th for the Start Up Challenge and on June 17th for the Scale Up Challenge.

Prof. Victoire de Margerie, Jury Chairman states: «Once more our Start Up Awards went legitimately to Start Ups that have a potential high impact on the WMF objective of decoupling economic growth and the use of our natural resources: our Grand Prix to CYCLOS (Indefinitely recyclable polymer, PDK to replace current range of polyurethane) and this year, 2 Coup de Coeur to SYLVATEX (Improved Lithium ion battery manufacturing) and TIAMAT (Fast-Charge Sodium-Ion Power Cells).

On the Scale Up side, no Grand Prix this year and 2 Coup de Coeur Awards to companies that have impressed the Jury by the fast and solid routes they have chosen: ZETA ENERGY (Safe & low-cost lithium sulfur batteries) and MALLINDA (Indefinitely recyclable Vitrimer based composites)».

 

GRAND PRIX START UP

Prof. Victoire de Margerie, Jury Chairman, Stéphane Mangin, Jury Vice Chairman and Nick Stanage, CEO HEXCEL gave the « GRAND PRIX » (50,000 € in cash) to Brett Helms, CEO of CYKLOS (Berkeley, USA).

 

COUP DE COEUR START UP 1

Prof. Victoire de Margerie, Jury Chairman, Stéphane Mangin, Jury Vice Chairman and Karim Zaghib, Mc Gill University/Concordia University gave the « COUP DE COEUR » (20,000 € in cash) to Virginia Klausmeier, CEO of SYLVATEX (Oakland, USA).

 

COUP DE COEUR START UP 2

Prof. Victoire de Margerie, Jury Chairman, Stéphane Mangin, Jury Vice Chairman and Bernard Pinatel, President Refining & Chemicals TOTAL gave the second « COUP DE COEUR » (20,000 € in cash) to Hervé Beuffe, CEO of TIAMAT (Amiens, France).

 

COUP DE COEUR SCALE UP 1

Philippe Varin, WMF Chairman, Prof. Victoire de Margerie, Jury Chairman and Hartwig Michels, President Petrochemicals Division BASF gave the « COUP DE COEUR » (20,000 € in cash) to Michael Liedtke, Head of Business Development of ZETA ENERGY (Houston, Texas).

 

COUP DE COEUR SCALE UP 2

Philippe Varin, WMF Chairman, Prof. Victoire de Margerie, Jury Chairman and Edith Coune, General Secretary of INNOVATION FUND gave the second « COUP DE COEUR » (20,000 € in cash) to Philip Taynton, CEO of MALLINDA (Denver, Colorado).
